Bridgeworks Supports STEM Awards

College STEM students are honoured at awards evening

They were honoured for their dedication, commitment and hard work across the full range (science, technology, engineering maths) subjects.

Top students from Brockenhurst College were celebrated at its annual STEM Awards.

Gold and silver awards were given out to 26 high achievers as well as cash prizes.

The event was sponsored by local industry partners Fawley-based GEO Speciality Chemicals and Lymington-based Bridgeworks.

Graham Dunkley from GEO and Bridgeworks CEO David Trossell presented the accolades, along with £100 for gold and £50 for silver winners.

Special guests were Mr and Mrs Greenwood a local couple who have set up the Greenwood Bursary which will be available every year to fund a student who faces finance hardship to study a STEM related university degree and will cover their entire tuition fees for three years of their course.

Seventeen-year-old Tessa Crosbie from the Isle of Wight was awarded overall STEM award as well as gold for biology.

Tessa was recognised for her hard work in college and during a two-month placement with charity Raleigh International where she worked on sustainable development project in Gorhka, Nepal, an area vulnerable to drought and waterborne illness.

After receiving her awards, Tessa said: “I’m truly grateful for the support and opportunities that come with studying at Brock.

“I love being a student here and to receive awards was such a nice surprise, I’m really honoured.”

Mr Trossell said: “Bridgeworks is honoured to support the Brockenhurst STEM awards for a second year and is thrilled to see so much interest from the local community to support STEM efforts”.

Assistant college principal Ann Johnson said: “As well as extending my congratulations to the students who won awards, I wish to thank our sponsors whose contribution has made this event a real success.

“We were absolutely delighted to announce the Greenwood Bursary at this year’s STEM awards and are extremely grateful for the Greenwoods’ generosity.”
